Admissions Process

All admissions applications for the 2024-2025 school year  will be collected through Apply Philly Charter. Families will be notified if their names have been selected on February 9th, 2024. Based on the acceptance rate, those who are on the waitlist will be notified if there are open spots available beginning in late March on a rolling basis.

Criteria for admission to the lottery:
  • Completed application for current year submitted online to www.applyphillycharter.org
  • To qualify for sibling or catchment preference, documentation will be required. Applicants will be notified electronically if anything is needed. The absence of any required qualifying documentation for sibling or catchment preference will cause the application to be moved to the general lottery.
  • Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 1st.
  • Non-resident students may be admitted only if there are no Philadelphia students applying for the particular grade. The students’ tuition must be paid by the district in which the student resides.

Exempted from the lottery:
  • All students currently enrolled and attending Northwood Academy Charter School
  • Siblings* of students currently enrolled and attending Northwood Academy Charter School (sibling preference) who have applied for admission, provided that there is space available for their admission to the grade for which they applied. Siblings must be Philadelphia residents to be eligible for “sibling preference.”
  • Incoming kindergarten students who reside in the Laura H. Carnell or Henry R. Edmunds catchment zone.
  • The child(ren) of a current employee applying for admission for the upcoming school year provided there is a space in the grade.

*A sibling shall be defined as a biological (sharing at least one common parent) or legally adopted brother or sister. Cousins, nieces, nephews and unrelated children living in the same household are not considered siblings.

The selection process takes place through Apply Philly Charter.

A Catchment Zone and/or Sibling Lottery will be held in the event there are more students applying than seats available.

In the event that the student is found ineligible for admission to the grade for which they applied and there is no space in the grade they should attend, said student will be placed on the Wait List in the next numerical position available. The Wait List does not assure admission.
